Supporting foster and adoptive families is critical to the health of the family, the children and our communities.  In the church, this job can be shared by many of us, and as we have been told, many hands make light work.  Everyone may not be called to foster or adopt a child, but everyone is called to play a part in this Great Commission we have been given, which is care for widows and orphans.  Children are becoming “orphans” in our society at an alarming rate as we are seeing the illness of drug addiction take more and more parents.

The church can

Our communities have a role to play as well.  CASA’s or Court Appointed Special Advocates are volunteers who offer their time to build relationships with the kids in care and work with the court to gather unbiased information on what may ultimately be the final decision on where the children will stay.  To learn more about serving as a CASA or GAL (Guardian Ad Litem – usually this role is played by an attorney), visit National CASA.
